Biography for Susy Boyer 2018 SDQS

I’m a native San Diegan who loves to sew just about everything. Like most of us, I have experienced and enjoyed making clothes, macramé, cross stitch, knitting, crocheting, home décor and quilting. As a young girl I watched my mother sew, and it was “she” that put a needle in my hand with embroidery floss, and handed me a pre-printed dresser scarf to embroider. A stem stitch, a lazy daisy, a French knot, and you’re set! So began my love of sewing.

Today I’m proud to say that I’ve come a long way since I embroidered that dresser scarf. At the San Diego Quilt Show in 2015 I entered my quilt, “How does your garden grow?” in the Primitive Category, and won a Blue Ribbon! What a great surprise it was.

In November of 2016 I had two of my quilts chosen to be displayed at the Houston International Quilt Festival. “How does your garden grow?” and “Wool Crazy”.  Both were displayed in the Primitive/Folk Art Special Exhibit. What an honor to be recognized for doing something that I love.

Another dream came true, when I had my design called “Crazy Blooms” in the 2018 Spring Issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects magazine. Not only was the project among the pages… they put it on the cover!

I’m delighted to be teaching at the San Diego Quilt Show again this year. I truly enjoy teaching and being a part of the friendships that are made in class.  I am inspired by what the students teach me!!!
